Examination

 

1.1. The Three Year Degree Course Leading To The Bachelor's Degree In Arts/Science/Commerce Of Utkal University Shall Be Spread Over A Period Of Three Academic Years. A Candidate For The Bachelor's Degree In Arts/Science/Commerce Shall Be Required To Appear The Following Examinations.

 

I. First University Examination
Ii. Second University Examination
Iii. Final University Examination
Eligibility For Admission Into Exam / To Sit In The Examination :


 

First Examination :

 

4.1. Any Registered Student Of The University May Be Admitted Into The First Examination If He/she Has Completed In One Or More Colleges Admitted For The Purpose Of Such Examination In The Subjects In With He/she Offers A Regular Course Of Study For Not Less Than One Academic Year After Passing The Higher Secondary Examination Conducted By The Council Of Higher Secondary Education, Orissa Or Any Other Examination Recognised By CHSE, Orissa And Utkal University As Equivalent Thereto, Provided He Is Not Otherwise In Eligible To

 

Appear The Said Examination.

 

Promotion To Next Higher Class:

 

1.2. Filling Up Of Forms For Yearend Examination In Each Year Is Mandatory. If A Student Does Not Fill Up The Form For The Relevant Yearend Examination (1st University Examination And 2nd University Examination) He/she Will Neither Be Promoted To The Next Higher Class Nor Shall Be Allowed To Take Year Back Examination.

 

Studentship Of Such Student Shall Cease At The End Of The Academic Year.

 

Second And Third Examination :

 

4.2. Any Registered Student Of The University May Be Admitted To The Second Examination For The Bachelor's Degree In Arts/Science/Commerce If He/she Has Cleared The First Examination In The Concerned Stream Or Has Appeared The Said Examination And Has Thereafter Completed A Regular Course Of Study For Not Less Than One Academic Year In The Second Year Course In One Or More Colleges Admitted For The Purpose Of Such Examination In The Subjects Which He/she Offers, Provided That He/she Is Not Otherwise Ineligible For Appearing The Said Examination.

 

4.3. Any Registered Student Of The University Maybe Admitted To The Final Examination For The Bachelor's Degree In Arts/Science/Commerce If He/she Has Cleared The Second Examination In The Concerned Stream Or Has Appeared The Said Examination And Has Thereafter Completed A Regular Course Of Study For Not Less Than One Academic Year In The Third Year Course In One Or More Colleges Admitted For The Purpose Of Such Examination In The Subjects Which He/she Offers, Provided That He/she Is Not Otherwise Ineligible For Appearing The Said Examination.

 

Non-Publication Of Result :

 

1.2. A Candidate Shall Be Eligible To Appear The Second And Final University Examination Only If He/she Has Registered For The First And Second University Examination Respectively. However, His/her Results Shall Not Be Published Unless He/she Has Passed In The First And Second Examination Respectively.

 

Publication Of Result :

 

25.1. The Result Of The Three Years B.A./B.Sc./B.Com. Degree Examination And The Classes To Be Awarded Shall Be Determined On The Basis Of The Combined Result Of First, Second And Final Examination Taken Together.

 

Filling Up Forms

 

17.2. The Application Submitted By Every Candidate For Admission To Any Examination, Other Than The Back Subject(s) Papers In Arts/Science/ Commerce Shall Contain A Certificate Of The Candidate(s) (i) Good Conduct, (ii) Diligent Study, (iii) Having Maintained The Required Percentage Of Attendance In Each Class Or Having Obtained Condo Nation For The Shortage Or Attendance If It Is Within The Admissible Range, & (iv) Having Satisfactorily Passed The Periodical And Test Examination Conducted By The College Concerned, Duly Signed By The Principal Or In Any Teacher Of The College Authorised For The Purpose By The Principal Of The College. Failure To Earn Any Of The Fore Said Certificates From The Principal Of The College Will Disqualify The Candidate For Being Admitted To The Examination Till He Earns The Same.

 

Provided That A Candidate Admission To An Examination, Under This Regulation 5.3. (clearance Of Back Subject Papers) Need Not Obtain Attendance Certificate. He/She Should However, Obtain Other Certificates As Required.

 

Passing Examinations :

 

4.4. In Order To Clear An Examination (First/Second/Final) A Candidate Is Required To Secure 30% Marks In A Subject And 40% In Each Practical Paper.

 

5.1. Aggregate Mark For Passing The Degree Examination Shall Be The Sum Total Of The Aggregate Of First, Second And Final Examinations Taken Together.

 

5.2.2. In Each Of The Above Examination For Subjects Having Practical A Candidate. In Order To Pass, Must Have Secured A Minimum Of 30% Of Marks In Theory Paper(s) Taken Together In A Subject And A Minimum Of 40% Marks In Practical Paper Other Than Honours Subjects, Provided He/she Has Secured The Minimum Aggregate Marks.

 

To Retain HonOURS

 

5.2.3. In Each Of The Above Examinations For Subjects Having Practical, A Candidate, In Order To Secure Honours, Must Have Secured A Minimum Of 45% Of Marks In Theory And Practical Papers Taken Together Subject To Securing The Minimum Pass Marks In Theory And Practical Papers Prescribed Under Clause 4.4.

 

TO Achieve Distinction

 

1. Distinction Shall Only Be Awarded In Respect Of Candidates Appearing In The First Chance. In Otherwords Appearance Under Clause 5.3 A, 5.3 B, 5.3 C, 5.3 D Is A Disqualification For Award Of Distinction.

 

Classification Of Successful Candidates

 

Class Will Be Awarded On The Following Basis

 

Pass : A Minimum Of 30% In Each Subject And A Minimum Of 36% Of Marks In The Aggregate.

 

Pass With Distinction : A Minimum Of 30% In Each Subject And A Minimum Of 50% Of Marks In The Aggregate.

 

Pass Without Honours : A Minimum Of 30% In Each Subject And A Minimum Of 36% In Aggregate In Subjects Other Than Honours And Less Than 45% But Not Less Than 36% In Honours Subject.

 

Pass Without Honours

 

And With Distinction : A Minimum Of 30% In Each Subject And A Minimum Of 36% In Aggregate In Subjects Other Than Honours And A Minimum Of 50% In Aggregate For Pass And Honours Subjects Combined.

 

Second Class Honours : A Minimum Of 30% In Each Subject And A Minimum Of 36% In Aggregate In Subjects Other Than Honours And A Minimum Of 45% Marks Or More But Less Than 60% In Honours Subject.

 

Second Class Honours

 

With Distinction :In Addition To Second Class Honours A Minimum Of 50% Marks Secured In Subjects Other Than Honours In First Appearance>

First Class Honours : A Minimum Of 30% In Each Subject And A Minimum Of 36% In Aggregate In Subjects Other Than Honours And A Minimum Of 60 % Or More In Honours.

 

First Class Honours

 

With Distinction : In Addition To First Class Honours A Minimum Of 50% Marks In Aggregate In Subjects Other Than Honours In First Appearance. Absentees In The Examination

 

5.3.a. If A Candidate Is Marked Absent In Any Sitting(s) Of An Examination, Such A Candidate Shall Have To Reappear In That Paper(s)/subject(s) In Order That His/her Results Are Declared.

 

Forfeiture Of Fees

 

17.4. If A Candidate Has Paid Full Fees For All The Subjects, In Any Examination, But Remained Absent In All The Subjects, He/she .shall Be Required To Pay The Full Prescribed Fees If He Appears At The Same Examination Again In The Subsequent Year(s).

 

Dropping Of Hons

 

18. A Candidate Taking Honours Course Initially In A Subject May Choose In Writing To Drop The Honours Course And Adopt The Pass Course In The Same Subject At The Time Of Submitting His Application For The First Examination Or Earlier And He/she Then Appears Subsequent Examination.

 

Failing To Secure Minimum Pass Marks (Back Paper) :

 

5.3.b. A Candidate Failing To Secure A Minimum Of 30% In Pass Subject And/or A Minimum Of 40% In Each Practical Paper Either In The First, Second Or Final Examination Of This University May Be Allowed To Appear In Those Subjects In Not More Than Two Chances (examinations) Immediately Following That Examination For Which Lie Was First Registered, To Clear The Back Paper(s) On Payment Prescribed Fees.

 

However, If A Candidate Who Has Not Cleared An Examination May At His Option, Appear In All Papers Of That Examination Under The Following Conditions.

 

5.3.b. Ii. After Exercising The Option To Appear In All Papers Of An Examination. If A Candidate Fails To Clear That Examination, He/she Will Be Required To Appear In All The Papers Of That Examination In A Subsequent Chance, Within 5 Years Of First Registration To First Degree Examination.

 

5.3.c. If A Candidate Has Appeared In Back Papers In The First Chance And In All The Papers In The Second Chance And Also Has Failed, Such A Candidate Can Appear At That Examination (In All The Papers) Under New Course Only Within 5 Years Of 1st Registration To First Degree Examination.

 

Explanation : "Five Years" Wherever Occurs Means Within Five Years From The Year Of Admission.

 

26.3. A Candidate Improving His/her Performance Under This Provision Will Be Examined On The Basis Of Syllabus Prevailing At The Time Of His Her First Registration To First Degree Examination.

 

Failing To Score Minimum Aggregate :

 

5.3.d. If The Candidate Fails To Secure The Pass Marks In The Aggregate

 

(under Regulation 5.2) He/she May Reappear In One Or More Subjects/paper(s) Of His Choice From Either The First, Second Or Final Examination To Make Up The Deficiency. This Chance Shall Be Available To A Candidate In Maximum Two Subsequent Chances (examinations) Only Following The Final Examination In Which He/she Was First Registered But Within 5 Years Of 1st Registration To First Degree Examination.

 

Disqualifing To Retain Honours & Improvement Of Class Division In Honours. :

 

5.3.e.i. Candidates Who Have Been Duly Admitted To B.A../B.Sc./B.Com. (Honours) (3 Year Degree Course) Examination Of The Utkal University And Have Obtained Only A Second Class (Hons.) Or Passed Without Honours Can Reappear At Any Examination(s) For The Honours Paper Only Of His/her Choice To Improve Their Results Within Two Subsequent Chances (examinations), On Application Submitted Through The Principal Of A College Affiliated To Utkal University In The Subject Up To The Honours Level. The Higher Of The Marks In Each Paper Shall Be Taken Into Consideration For Determining Their Results And Divisions. However, Distinctions If Earned By The Candidate Shall Not Be Effected By Improvement Examination Under The Clause.

 

Explanation : "Re Appear At Any Examination" Means Reappearing In The Examinations For The Paper(s) In Which The Candidate Has Failed To Secure 45% "in The Same Course".

 

5.3.e.ii. Provided That A Candidate Shall Be Allowed To Improve His Performance In Theory Papers Only And Only Once After Passing The B.A./8.Sc/B.Com. (3 Years Degree Course) Examination Of Utkal University.

 

5.3.e.iv. Collegiate Candidates Taking This Advantage Be Treated As Regular Candidates And Will Be Examined On The Basis Of Current Syllabus.

 

Special Provision For Pass Students

 

26.1. A Candidate Who Has Passed The 3 Year Degree Final B.A./B.Sc./B.Com. (Pass) Examination Under Utkal University Securing A Minimum Of 45% Marks In The Aggregate Can Appear In Honours Examination In Only One Of The Pass Subjects Offered By Him/her In Pass Course, Subject To The Provision Of 5.3.f, Provided That He/she Has Secured A Minimum Of 45% In Aggregate In That Pass Paper.

 

26.2. In Subjects Where Practical Courses Are Offered, A Candidate Shall Undergo Practical Training For A Period Of Six Months And

 

Submit A Certificate At The Time Of Submitting The Final Application Form To That Effect From The Principal/HOD Of A College Where Such Subject Is Taught Up To Honours Level.

 

Important

 

5.3.f. Provided Further That In No Case A Candidate Shall Be Allowed To Appear Any Examination After 5 Years Of First Registration To First University Examination.

 

Attendance

 

16.1. A Candidate Shall Be Required To Attend 75% Of The Lectures, Tutorials And Practical Classes, Taken Separately, In Each Subject During Each Academic Year And Condonation In Exceptional Cases May Be Granted By The College To The Extent Of 15%.

 

16.3. A Candidate May Be Permitted To Take Up One Of The M.I.L. As Specified Under Clauses 14.3. Of These Regulation Without The Requirement Of Attendance At Lectures. If A College In Which He Or She Is Admitted Is Not Affiliated In That Subject.

 

Additional Information

 

6.5. The Question Paper Of The University Examination In Arts/Science/Commerce Shall Contain Alternative Questions On The Courses Of Study Prescribed For The Preceding Year Where Such Courses Of Study Have Since Been Altered Or Amended.

 

14.3. A Candidate Shall Be Allowed To Offer Any One Of The Following M.I.L.s Oriya, Hindi, Bengali, Telugu And Urdu, Provided That A Candidate Shall Be Allowed To Offer Alternative English In Lieu Of M.I.L.

 

20. For T.D.C. (Pass & Honours) Each Period Shall Be Of Maximum Of 50 Minutes Duration. Each Practical Class May Cover A Minimum Of 3 Periods. Each Tutorial/practical Group Will Consist Of Maximum Of 16 Students. A General Group Class Will Have A Maximum Of 128 Students.

 

Notification Of Attendance

 

Monthly Attendance In Theory As Well As Practical In Respect Of Each Subject Shall Be Calculated Immediately At The End Of Every Month.

 

The Names Of Students Attending Less Than 75% Classes Shall Be Notified Periodically In The Notice Board For Improvement.

 

Lession Plan & Progress

 

All The Teaching Staffs Of The Institution Will Prepare The Lesson Plan For The Current Academic Session In The Month Of July. The Lesson Plan Should Be Prepared On The Assumption That Atleast 30 Academic Weeks Will Be Available To A Teacher In One Academic Session.The Lesson Should Be Planned In Such A Way That It Will Include The Completion Of The Course, Class Test, Routine Test Etc. And No Class Will Be Dropped Due To The Completion Of The Course Before 31st January Of The Next Year Of The Current Academic Session. They Are To Maintain In The Progress Register Of The Department Regarding The Progress Of Their Course In Each Class. The Lesson Plan And The Progress Register Is To Be Submitted To The Principal For Verification Every Month (1st Week).
